ABC NOT rescuing canceled "Ghost Whisperer"
Written by on May 29th, 2010

“Ghost Whisperer,” the Jennifer Love Hewitt supernatural drama that was surprisingly axed by CBS last week, will not cross over to ABC.

“After five wonderful seasons and over 100 episodes, we are disappointed to announce ‘Ghost Whisperer’ will not be returning for a sixth season,” executive producers Kim Moses and Ian Sander said in a statement Thursday.

ABC, whose studio sibling co-produced “Ghost Whisperer” with CBS, had expressed an interest in “Ghost Whisperer,” which consistently won its Friday-night time period.

Hewitt starred as a medium who can communicate with earthbound spirits and helps them “cross over” to the other side after their unfinished business is resolved.

ABC Chiefs Giving "Ghost Whisperer" A Lifeline
Written by on May 25th, 2010

JENNIFER LOVE HEWITT’s spooky TV series GHOST WHISPERER has been brought back from the dead – TV executives at ABC have given the show a lifeline.

The long-running drama was axed last week (ends21May10) as part of a sweep by executives at CBS.

But Hewitt’s co-star and ex-boyfriend Jamie Kennedy has revealed there is still “life” in the programme after ABC chiefs expressed interest in picking up Ghost Whisperer for its future schedule.

He says, “They are talking about it, so that’s cool. We haven’t exactly gone into the light, we haven’t crossed over, but we’ve got some life.”

Ghost Whisperer premiered in 2005.

Jennifer Love Hewitt On "Ghost Whisperer's" Last Episode
Written by on May 25th, 2010

Melinda’s (Jennifer Love Hewitt) investigation of a poltergeist in the hospital leads to a showdown with supernatural forces terrorizing her and her son on tonight’s “Ghost Whisperer.”

“We have lots of strange children marching around in scary masks, which is so creepy,” Jennifer tells ET. “It’s like, ‘Why do we always have to make children creepy?’ I’m constantly asking the producers. I’m like, ”Can’t we just have a child who’s not creepy, because it freaks me out. It gives me nightmares and I don’t like it.’”

There actually is a non-creepy kid on “Ghost Whisperer,” and that is her son Aiden (Connor Gibbs).

“We find out that he has to come to Melinda’s aid and really saves her life in the season finale,” Jennifer says. “The dark side gets extremely powerful very quickly and he’s sort of her only heroic key. So my son gets to kind of be a superhero for the episode, which is very cool.”

The “Ghost Whisperer” season finale — possibly the series finale — airs tonight at 8 p.m. on CBS.

CBS Slaughter: Ghost Whisperer Among List of Canceled Shows
Written by on May 18th, 2010

The hits just keep on coming.

My sources confirm reports that the following CBS shows have gotten the ax. For your consideration, I have put them in a list from most shocking to “yeah, knew that was happening”:

* Old Christine
* Ghost Whisperer
* Gary Unmarried
* Accidentally on Purpose
* Cold Case
* Miami Medical
* Numb3rs

Yikes. Talk about cleaning house. But here is your bright side: Rules of Engagement and Medium both got renewed. Also, there is still hope that Ghost and Christine might be picked up by ABC.

Poor Jennifer Love Hewitt. But there just might be a plan B for her. I talked to Greg Grunberg yesterday about becoming a series regular on the new NBC rom-com Love Bites. J.Love is guesting in the pilot episode as a free pass for Greg’s character: She’s on the list of celebrities he’s allowed to sleep with. “I end up in a bathroom on a plane with Jennifer Love Hewitt,” he tells me. “I can’t tell you what happens, but it’s very funny. She, by the way, is the greatest.” Perhaps she’ll be back on the show after the mile-high situation?

Love Bites is going to have a revolving door of guest stars each week, so this slew of cancellations could mean grabbing up new characters. Who else should that show pick up from the depths of unemployment? CBS is not commenting on these updates, but we won’t have to wait long. CBS upfronts are tomorrow, and I’ll be there to feed you updates. Meanwhile, head to the comments and rant until the shock wears off.

Ghost Whisperer's Future Might Not Be CBS
Written by on May 3rd, 2010

What is the future of Ghost Whisperer? Despite being that chimera known as a solidly performing Friday night network drama, CBS is said to be pondering a Friday night reshuffle.

Interestingly, as Ghost Whisperer is co-owned between CBS Studios and ABC Studios, the upshot might be that Ghost Whisperer might drop off of CBS’s schedules and resurface on ABC’s, resulting in a strange echo of last season’s Medium network switcheroo.

The ratings have sunk this season, but the fact is that none of the broadcast networks is doing well on Friday nights this year, and Ghost Whisperer is pulling in okay if unremarkable ratings. There seems to be less of a chance that Ghost Whisperer will be canceled outright, than that CBS will rethink Fridays and leave the show without a berth.

Ghost Whisperer, currently in its 5th season and on the far side of its hundredth episode, is doing well in domestic and international rating and continues to pull a following, as does its brandmade Medium, but given its longevity and success in reruns it wouldn’t be difficult for network execs to decide it has run its course. Medium, wholly owned by CBS Studios and normally keeping all of its Ghost Whisperer lead-in, is slightly more likely to stay on the CBS network, but if CBS decides to shake up Fridays it’s likely both shows will be closed out.
